A link to the past
A simple and natural environment in which to connect with nature. Perfect for those who want to experience glamping without distractions and neighbours. With uninterrupted views of the South Downs, and an ancient circular nomadic design, our yurt provides an escape from modern day living and a link to the distant past.

"truly magical"
“We booked the yurt for our first wedding anniversary and it was the perfect place to switch off, unwind and soak up the beauty that is the Sussex countryside. We stayed for two nights, and had one fire outside, and one inside the yurt, both truly magical. The yurt itself is very special and secluded, and the bed was super comfortable” — Emilie

A spiritual space
The circular design makes this space feel nurturing and cosy, especially when the wood stove is lit. For this reason, October is reserved for spiritual retreats, yoga classes and sound baths. From April to September, our Yurt is open to guests so we recommend you book ahead to secure your preferred dates!

"a world of your own"
“Absolutely fell in love with Emma's yurt and the amazing view of the countryside right outside its door. Located in a corner of the Westerlands farm estate, staying in the yurt felt like you were in a world of your own — affording privacy and creature comforts — yet was only a short walk away to the farm house annex with hot showers and flushing toilets.” — Lesley

Stargazing from bed
Gazing up at the stars above through the toono (skylight) is pretty special. Drifting off to sleep hearing rain on the canvas or watching a stormy sky above are just as wonderful as the sounds of wild animals close by and farm animals in the distance. Our Yurt connects its inhabitants with nature in the same way as its original Mongolian owners did centuries ago.

Family friendly
A traditional yurt is a multi-generational living space. Our yurt has a super comfortable king size bed and 3 extra single beds made up if you need them (2x fold up camp beds and 1x mattress on the floor). Please note: the single beds are very simple, not a luxury for adults but fine for kids.

"wood burning stove"
“Fantastic yurt with lots of accoutrements for light cooking, making tea and having a wonderful experience - it is set in the most beautiful surroundings - magical at night when you put the fairy lights and the wood burning stove on! Open the wooden door onto a spectacular view of the South Downs. Really dreamy…” — Naomi

"at one with nature"
“Our second stay at the yurt, this time for 5 nights as we loved it so much the first time. The yurt is in a beautiful country estate with incredible views and animals all around. Completely peaceful and at one with nature. The surrounding countryside is beautiful, Petworth and Midhurst are lovely to wander around and lots of country pubs in the area! What more could you want from a country escape!” — Melissa
Dog friendly accommodation
We love dogs here at Westerlands however our Yurt is only really suitable for small dogs as there is no private garden and our chickens roam around outside and love to stop by for a visit.
We do ask guests to bring their own dog beds.
We support the SDNP Take the lead campaign which means keeping dogs on a lead when they leave the Yurt. This is for their own safety around farm machinery as well as the welfare of our animals and the abundance of wildlife here on the South Downs.
Bring your horse on holiday
Our stable yard is a few minutes walk from our Nomad Yurt and this is where you can arrange turnout and stabling for your horse while you are staying with us. Please contact Cheryl for more information and prices.
You can also book additional horses for you and your guests to explore the South Downs. Rides can be booked at our Trekking Centre.
