Stay at the heart of our farm

  • Perfect fusion

The perfect fusion of historic rural tradition with 21st-century living, our beautifully crafted shepherd hut offers a simple and natural environment in which to relax and unwind. This retreat is perfect for those who want to be located at the heart of our farm and wake to the sound of sheep and horses and yet have the privacy of a rural setting.

  • "perfect cosy space"

“This was an incredible and beautiful place to stay. Unlike any where I have stayed before. From the lambs near the hut to the horses in the next paddock and a national park literally behind the farm, this is a truly wonderful setting. The hut is a perfect cosy space and if it was possible to give this more than 5 stars then I would! We will be back!” — Bethan, England

  • Ensuite

Our shepherd hut is equipped with its own private bathroom facilities, including a shower, sink, and modern flushing toilet—an undeniable luxury compared to the original huts. Embrace small-space living without sacrificing comfort or convenience during your stay.

  • Hand crafted

Sustainably renovated at Westerlands by Adam at Wild Oak Carpentry using timber from locally managed woodlands, Aspen Leaves is a perfectly and cleverly designed space for 1-2 people to enjoy a few days away in nature.

  • "... a real find"

“A beautiful secluded peaceful site. Lots of lovely walks straight from the Shepherd's Hut, very comfortable bed. It was great to be near to where my family was camping and to retreat to my sanctuary at the end of the day!” — Nel

  • "woodpecker in the tree"

“The rocking chairs outside were incredible and we spent all night outside in front of the fire cooking our own food and enjoying the beauty of nature. We saw bees, bats, horses, butterflies and so many species of birds. We even had a woodpecker pecking away in the tree behind us. It was so peaceful…” — Corina

  • "attention to detail"

“This shepherd's hut is a real find. We had the whole field to ourselves. It was peaceful, but close enough to amenities. The inside was beautifully restored with real attention to detail. The toiletries supplied were a treat and shower was more powerful than our one at home. Thank you.” — Sue

  • Kitchenette

Simply furnished with quality fixtures and fittings. Everything you need is provided for cabin stay including an electric hob and saucepans as well as BBQ utensils for cooking on the open fire outside.

  • Stream nearby

Located at the heart of our farm and next to the equestrian centre means our guests can enjoy the sights and sounds of horses every day as well as sheep and lambs (during lambing season). With amazing views of the South Downs and the tinkling of the stream nearby, its no surprise our guests want to stay longer.

Romantic moment

“My partner and I had an absolutely amazing stay at Aspen Leaves! The hut was so lovely and cozy—truly the perfect getaway.

A huge thank you to Antonia and her team for being such incredible hosts. The weekend we visited, the weather wasn’t ideal, but your warm and welcoming hospitality made all the difference.

Aspen Leaves will always hold a special place in our hearts because I proposed to my partner there! It was such a romantic moment, and she loved every detail of our stay. Thanks again for everything! We’re already looking forward to coming back in the summer.” — Lauren

Dog friendly accommodation

We love dogs here at Westerlands. Our shepherd hut is only really suitable for small dogs as the private fenced-in garden is small and our lambs are close by.

We do ask guests to bring their own dog beds.

We support the SDNP Take the lead campaign which means keeping dogs on a lead when they leave the hut. This is for their own safety around farm machinery as well as the welfare of our animals and the abundance of wildlife here on the South Downs.

Bring your horse on holiday

Our stable yard is a 10 minute walk from Aspen Leaves and this is where you can arrange turnout and stabling for your horse while you are staying with us.

Please contact Cheryl for more information and prices.

You can also book additional horses for you and your guests to explore the South Downs. Rides can be booked with our Equestrian Manager at our Trekking Centre which is right next to Aspen Leaves.

We look forward to seeing you here soon
