Meet our horses

  • Rosie

    Irish | Mare | 2014 | 13.2hh

Rosie is the favourite of the yard. Her cheeky personality is infectious, watch your pockets as she's always looking for snacks. She's a lovely ride and is always trying her best to keep up with the big ponies. Rosie is a novice ride but can easily be whizzed up for a more experienced rider.

  • Caesar

    Connemara | Gelding | 2010 | 15hh

Caesar, the old faithful, is a true connemara through and through with the looks and character to match. He really takes care of his riders - if he were human he would be your best friend.

  • Jessie

    Irish | Gelding | 2004 | 16.1hh

Jessie is a true Irishman, relaxed laid back but with a cheeky side. Suitable for any rider, he loves cuddles and fuss and enjoys a day's hound exercise. You may hear him before you see him as he is a real chatty chappie!

  • Tommy

    Irish | Gelding | 2016 | 18.2hh

Tommy is our bfgg of the yard (big friendly ginger giant!) he is the kindest most gentle horse there is. He absolutely adores a cuddle from all humans especially little ones. Do not let his height put you off as he has the most incredible laid back nature. The minute you meet Tommy you will be totally in love.

A history of horses at Westerlands

The Jamison family have been breeding racehorses at Westerlands since the 1980s, but the stud has been in existence for much longer.

Lord Woolavington founded it in 1904,” reveals Antonia. “He had a number of studs but this was his favourite because of the soil. The land has a good mixture of chalk, clay and sand so it keeps pretty dry, which is good when the horses are outside in all weathers.

In the 1940s it was taken over by Florence Nagle. She was a formidable woman and in 1966, she became one of the first two women in the UK, licensed to train racehorses in her own name, after overturning a high court ruling.”
